Last week, we saw updated guidance from both Dallas-Fort Worth counties and the State of Texas in relation to COVID-19.
State of Texas entry guidance
The State of Texas has issued an order that impacts customers who arrive in Texas via airports in California, Connecticut, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York and Washington state, along with the cities of Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Miami. In accordance with this order, customers may be required to fill out a declaration form upon arrival in Texas and may be screened by state health officials. Customers will also be required to self-quarantine for 14 days from the time of arrival (if a location in Texas is their final destination) or for the duration of their trip to the state, whichever is shorter.
While this will impact all customers who originate in these six states and four cities, we anticipate officials will focus on nonstop flights. Customers who are connecting to a location outside of Texas may be asked to show their boarding pass to state officials and won’t be required to fill out a form. According to the order, employees of critical infrastructure (which includes all airlines), along with customers traveling in connection with military service, emergency or health response, are not affected. Team members must have their valid AA ID in hand when arriving at the airport.
DFW county orders
Many of our North Texas counties, including Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties, have issued some version of ‘stay at home’ orders. These orders are intended to close nonessential businesses and restrict social gatherings. Airlines and airports are considered essential businesses, which means our teams should continue to report to work as normal. While at work, we do want you to practice social distancing as reasonably as possible. That means giving extra space in break rooms and while performing duties.
If you need documented proof that you are an essential worker, please click here to download a letter you may use. Simply type in your name and print it. If you need any help with the letter, reach out to the Team Member Service Center.
