Communications for Dallas/Fort Worth-based team members

    March 30, 2020

    The latest on COVID-19

Last week, we saw updated guidance from both Dallas-Fort Worth counties and the State of Texas in relation to COVID-19.

    State of Texas entry guidance

The State of Texas has issued an order that impacts customers who arrive in Texas via airports in California, Connecticut, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York and Washington state, along with the cities of Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit and Miami. In accordance with this order, customers may be required to fill out a declaration form upon arrival in Texas and may be screened by state health officials. Customers will also be required to self-quarantine for 14 days from the time of arrival (if a location in Texas is their final destination) or for the duration of their trip to the state, whichever is shorter.

While this will impact all customers who originate in these six states and four cities, we anticipate officials will focus on nonstop flights. Customers who are connecting to a location outside of Texas may be asked to show their boarding pass to state officials and won’t be required to fill out a form. According to the order, employees of critical infrastructure (which includes all airlines), along with customers traveling in connection with military service, emergency or health response, are not affected. Team members must have their valid AA ID in hand when arriving at the airport.

    DFW county orders

Many of our North Texas counties, including Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties, have issued some version of ‘stay at home’ orders. These orders are intended to close nonessential businesses and restrict social gatherings. Airlines and airports are considered essential businesses, which means our teams should continue to report to work as normal. While at work, we do want you to practice social distancing as reasonably as possible. That means giving extra space in break rooms and while performing duties.

If you need documented proof that you are an essential worker, please click here to download a letter you may use. Simply type in your name and print it. If you need any help with the letter, reach out to the Team Member Service Center.

We continue to closely monitor and adjust our operation due to the latest with COVID-19.

Make sure you stay up-to-date by joining Joe at his weekly Town Hall sessions on Thursday at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.Dial-in information sent weekly.

    SIDA badge renewals and revalidation

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) approved an Alternative Measure that provides airport operators flexibility in the application of badging requirements during the COVID-19 public health crisis.

    Revalidation

SIDA Badge revalidation for old-style blue and yellow badges with expiration dates from March 23, 2020 to February 26, 2021 will be extended until June 1, 2020.

Team members should still continue the revalidation process by visiting Access DFW during their modified office hours: Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Badge Renewals

Access DFW will not be processing any badge renewals from March 23, 2020 through July 24, 2020. All badges set to expire during this time will remain active with associated privileges, including access to all authorized areas. All security checkpoints and AOA gates will have a full list of affected badge holders whose expiration dates have been extended. Access DFW will coordinate with the badge holders and Authorized Signatories when this Alternative Measure is rescinded.

Please see the attached document for more information, including some exceptions.

For questions or concerns, please contact Access DFW at accessdfw@dfwairport.com

    TSA checkpoint closures

The TSA is taking these checkpoints out of service until further notice due to lack of activity: A1, A35, B9, C30, D18 and E33.

Temporary closure of Wheels Up café

Beginning Sunday, April 5, the Wheels Up café will temporary suspend service. They will still offer 24-hour Grab & Go service in front of the café but cafeteria services will be closed.

Doug Parker explains what CARES Act means for team members

These are challenging and unprecedented times for our industry, our company and our team. The bipartisan financial stabilization package that Congress passed will provide immediate and necessary support for our team members – the heart of our business – as we work tirelessly to weather this crisis together. We are deeply grateful for the aid during this difficult time, and applaud the administration officials and leaders in Congress who worked hard to craft and pass this legislation to protect aviation workers and the American public and the president for signing the CARES Act into law.

American will continue to provide critical air service to keep communities across the country moving and flexibility for our customers in this time of uncertainty. Hear more from Doug Parker on what the CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act means for our team.

Remember to take your temperature, and if you are sick stay home

Caring for people on life’s journey is what we’re all about — and there’s no better way to make that clear than this: If you’re not feeling well, we want you to take care of yourself and not come to work. Safety remains our top priority, so before coming to work, consider doing a quick check of your health and temperature. If you’re under the weather and/or have a fever, stay home. American’s sick and leave of absence policies are designed for team members to stay home when necessary. Policies and procedures regarding sick time and leaves of absence vary by workgroup and country. If you have questions, discuss your specific options with your manager. We want you to know the latest about your work-related options and the steps we’re taking to care for our team members in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19). You can learn more about what we’re doing on Jetnet.
