Dear TWU Air Division Members,
We understand that while assaults against airline crews occurred before Covid, they have only increased since the pandemic. We are all here to ensure the public can travel safely – we shouldn’t have to be protected by the same passengers we’re trying to help. That’s why the TWU is collecting information from workers like you so we can properly demand action and call for more policies and protections on your behalf. And in order to demand the protections we all desperately need and deserve, we need to hear from you.
Have you witnessed, experienced or heard about assault or harassment from passengers while on the job? Please fill out this short survey. This can be from personal experience, something you witnessed, or stories you have heard from fellow airline workers. We also want to know how the airline you’re employed by has responded to these reports of assault and harassment, if you believe the existing protocols have been effective, and what you think needs to change in order to properly protect airline workers. These answers will not be shared publicly without your permission.
Throughout 2021, there were 5,981 unruly passenger reports (according to the FAA), and out of the 5,981 reports, there were only 1,113 investigations initiated and 350 enforcement actions initiated (according to the FAA). The lack of accountability and protections for airline workers must end. Help us advocate on behalf of the TWU and all airline workers by filling out this short survey.
In Solidarity,
The TWU Air Division
