October 10, 2006 AFW JSC Meeting Minutes
Open Items:
(1) TAESL
- All safety references will reference from the OPM to the GPM. The OPM needs to be changed.
- Test Cell Fall Protection – in work
- Will be working with the ladder manufacturing company to ensure all ladders are safe and OSHA compliant. (Ladders are primarily in build line). Pending
(2) Respirator and qualifications in TAESL.
- QA alert bulletin on respirators was released.
- Employees must go through medical to be fit tested for respirators.
(3) JSC group will create a Near Miss Program. VPP will require the program to be in place.
(4) Safety and compliance team and 5S have been invited to attend the next JSC meeting and give an overview of their respective programs.
(5) Kevin Haugh brought up a safety issue they are seeing in the Structures building. Most of the doors do not have windows in the door structure and a hand injury occurred where one person opened the door into someone on the other side who was reaching to door knob to open the same door. The committee decided the windows were a necessary addition. Kevin also reported that some of these doors were missing handles and they need to be replaced for fear of a finger being injured when trying to open the doors.
(6) Leeman Adams mentioned the Thrust Reverser shop needs new stands. Leeman to follow up with Jack Jenkins.
(7) Docks need new safety equipment
New Items:
(1) ERT – Kip Richard
- 3 rd shift ERT representation is low
- CPR classes will be held again in the near future
- Speakers for PA system have been ordered and are on their way
(2) Many injuries this month caused by surroundings that are hazardous
(3) EAGLES –
- Scorecard cards will be sent to the managing directors on a monthly basis
- To make EAGLES scores more visual – one idea was to put a red, yellow, green light outside of the shop to show the safety level
(4) Employees are smoking under the roll up doors of the Structures building because of the bad weather.
- Facilities to get 3 more ‘smoke shacks' placed outside of the building
(5) TAESL Shop audits will be conducted over the next weeks for customer UPS. Leo Dominguez asked if a group from the JSC could come and do a mock audit to help the shops be prepared.
(6) Charles Mendez –
- Before we are awarded OSHA VPP status, we will have to integrate safety and health into all AFW processes
- Ladders – would like concerted effort to evaluate the safety implications
- When an accident occurs he needs to be one of the first people notified of the accident.
- HDQ/SSE expects AFW to use the MEAA process for all major incidents, including ones involving serious personnel injury
- The industrial hygienist in the Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) administrator per HDQ/SSE. The current RPP training program and all safety and health training. Needs to reviewed jointly with AFW Training and the IH.
- Protection through proactive movement
- Safety and health metrics need to be reviewed
- Lead by example – all JSC members should wear their safety glasses when in a shop or on the floor
